Poetry Post #1

Western Massachusettes
the mill towns we break our feet in/ little loose teeth dangling from our necks
and the scree scrambling up that mountainside.
we curl into our creaking cracked wood floors/ another American winter.
we blow ourselves clean with kisses
frozen little charms of our love-
smoke rising from the parted lips of a parked car window.

I started this blog in the hopes that it would be a resource for not only friends and family during my time abroad, but for the University of Southern Maine community as well. If the blog goes as planned, it will track my semester at Keele University in Staffordshire, England. I wanted to include the process of applying for a student visa and booking flights and such, simply as an example for others to look at. Personally, relying on bureaucracy makes me a bit nervous, however well the system works – I thought it might provide some reassurance for others. The application process really is quite easy, though it seems overwhelming at times.
I’m an English major with a minor in writing at the University of Southern Maine. I have an inexplicable amount of school pride, and like to involve myself in a lot of activities including the concert chorale, assisting in editing the literary journal Words and Images and working at the Women’s Resource Center. Aside from that, I try and stay on top of my reading and writing assignments… and at this point in the semester, that’s a bit daunting!
I’ll update soon about my student visa application process!
